As if A Balladeer was once more than a singer / songwriter and some session musicians, Sorry, Kid is presented as Marinus de Goods' first solo album. The record is released under the name mr. A Balladeer and in-house, while A Balladeer is still under contract with EMI. Should this record be seen separately from the two previous records of De Goods? On the one hand, that makes no sense, because the
… songs are, except for a shift in emphasis to acoustic instruments, not essentially different. On the other hand, Sorry, Kid is obviously more honest and pure than anything he's done before. 'I don't feel alright', De Goods sings a number of times in opening track Mars and the tone is set. The singer is particularly candid in his lyrics and occasionally manages to mislead the listener with a funny lyric discovery. The biggest plus is that the CD sounds authentic and that was sometimes a problem with A Balladeer. But above all, there should not be too much comparison with his band, because Sorry, Kid is indeed a stand-alone product. (JE)more
