The singer / songwriter Daniel Martin Moore was signed by record company Sub Pop based on a single demo. 'A small miracle', according to Muziekweb in 2008, because 'Daniel's music is so subdued and unassuming that it could easily have been ignored.' After an album with cellist Ben Sollee, the ever-quiet bard returns with In The Cool Of The Day. The album opens daringly with a song sung a capella.
Moore goes on to distinguish himself from other somber guitars with his remarkably clear voice. From the third song O My Soul it starts to enchant you. If this song appeals to your mood, the handkerchiefs can really be pulled out on Closer Walk With Thee, a wonderful tear-jerk. Moore's sense of when to use a modest or well-dressed arrangement, does not deceive him anywhere. As a listener it is just a matter of leaning back in a nice chair and being surprised at what is to come. An attitude that pays off, because Moore never disappoints. (JE)more
