With only a dirty guitar sound and a dilapidated rhythm box as accompaniment, guitarist Jamie Hince and singer Alison Mosshart as The Kills managed to play out a brooding mutual chemistry on their first two albums. After the smoother produced third album Midnight Boom (2008) it became quiet around The Kills and Mosshart turned up in supergroup The Dead Weather with Jack White among others. On Blood
… Pressures the duo returns to that earlier and more primary work and they make a living again with a limited set of instruments. It is the raw, sensual throat of Mosshart that demands the most attention and that effortlessly drowns out the hard and distorted rhythm box and the dirty guitar riffs of Hince. Blood Pressures sometimes sounds remarkably melodic and even poppy, but unmistakably like The Kills. (MR)more
