Since their inception in 1993, Low has established a place of their own in indie music. This American trio around the Mormon couple Alan Sparhawk (vocals and guitar) and Mimi Parker (vocals and drums) has been able to touch the audience from their first albums with their quiet songs and moving harmony vocals. They also managed to hold on to this and to attract a loyal following. Not that nothing
… has changed in the sound in the meantime: the 11th album Ones And Sixes is literally and figuratively a big step away from, for example, the Low classic from 1999. For example, the songs on their latest album sound much more accessible and sometimes even poppy. The drums are sometimes electronic and the once so consciously created stillness is no longer honored, sometimes even broken by heavy guitar work. What remained is the almost solemn singing and harmony of Sparhawk and Parker in a dozen strong, alternative pop songs. (MR)more
