Rarely has a hobby group been as successful as Mike & The Mechanics. Bassist and guitarist Mike Rutherford combined this group of friends with a permanent job at Genesis, but especially in the eighties he scored big hits in America with it. … Howar among others. The band name is fully justified because The Road simply revives the Mike & The Mechanics of yesteryear. The pointed and transparent soft rock songs always sound pleasant to the ear. Howar audibly has a musical background and seems to have walked straight out of a theater in the West End with his slick and dramatic vocal performances. Roachford also knows how to convey his lyrics with a bronze voice. Like Rutherford, they are professionals. But there is no sense of inspiration, with which The Road ultimately does nothing more than pleasantly chug along. (MR)more
