Kenny Wayne Shepherd broke through in the 1990s as the new Stevie Ray Vaughan. His guitar playing had a lot in common with that of the then recently deceased blues legend. Some even thought they were listening to previously unreleased Stevie Ray material. His first records were extremely well received and he even received a number of nominations for Grammy Awards. In 2011, the exciting thing is off
… and KWS (like on Kenny's guitar strap; where do we know that from?) Is lagging behind. He is known for his guitar playing, but that hasn't grown. Dynamism seems to be a word that doesn't exist and the songs could have thrived on a mediocre country pop record from two decades ago. Anyway, to get seventeen of those songs on one CD you also need certain talents. On the positive side, Kenny has abandoned the idea to also take care of the lead vocals and is working with howler monkey Noah Hunt again. (SI)more
