'Thanks to The Cars for the summer 1984.' A seemingly innocent sentence with which Kris Delmhorst ends the endless credits of her CD Cars. In fact, the American singer / songwriter is indebted to The Cars, as this album is filled from A to Z with covers of the new wave band. This is nothing short of a true tribute. Delmhorst succeeds her husband Jeffrey Foucault, who made an album with John Prine
… covers in 2009. In line with the folk records Delmhorst writes himself, Cars is a beautifully arranged record. Most of The Cars' oeuvre was made in the eighties and the usual studio tricks of the time have given most songs a rather dated sound. Delmhorst dusted the songs and recorded them in a beautiful acoustic atmosphere. This makes this CD a good choice for people who like the songs of The Cars frontman Ric Ocasek, but not synthetic instrumentation. And actually it is also recommended for anyone who wants to redo the summer of 1984. (JE)more
