After four years of radio silence, singer Björk delivers her eighth studio album. It was not completely silent around the Icelandic beauty, but she had no desire to write new songs for a long time. A striking message in the album booklet is the thank you to her doctor for regaining her voice. Her typical voice is therefore predominant on Biophilia, which contains ten very strong songs. Björk shows
… that she is moving with the times, because she used an I-pad for a large part of the composition of her songs. Many electric beats, which can be heard on songs like Crystalline and Cosmogony, originated in the gadget. But old 'instruments' also serve the singer on Biophilia. For example, the excellent Thunderbolt uses a Tesla transformer, a device from the nineteenth century that reaches a very high frequency by means of voltage. Björk once again delivers a surprising and well thought-out album that will not disappoint loyal fans and may also appeal to new listeners. (BvdV)more
