The Earth group around guitarist Dylan Carlson initially seemed destined to become nothing more than a footnote in the Seattle rock of the 1990s. Until great recognition came from the corner of the drone metal and the group Sunn O))) even named itself after Carlson's amplifier. Although Carlson seemed almost ready with his drug use to meet his best friend Kurt Cobain, his label Southern Lord brought
… him back on the musical path. The renewed Earth comes with its own sound that can best be described as minimal post rock. This always sounds dragging and is framed with ominous drones and dark American Gothic. Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light II is the second result of an extremely fruitful fourteen-day studio session where the songs of the quartet were created while improvising. In addition to drums, bass and cello, Carlson's baroque guitar motifs and riffs once again play the leading role in the mesmerizing and almost occult sound of this special group. (MR)more
