These days Patrick Watson knows better than anyone how to integrate influences from classical music into his work, which is considered by many to be indie rock. In his youth, however, the versatile Canadian was engaged in a completely different style of music. At a young age he was part of the ska band. He did not hang around with that company for long, after which he started working as a singer
… / songwriter on his own. And with success. Watson is now a welcome guest at both Canadian and European festivals because of his versatility and striking musical arrangements. His latest feat is this beautiful Adventures In Your Own Backyard. He couldn't have come up with a better title for his fifth studio album. Watson built a studio in his house and then went to live with his wife and children in the building next door. As a result, he looked out on his new backyard while writing. This resulted in twelve melancholic songs, which each time manage to surprise with unexpected musical highlights. (BvdV)more
