Becoming a trendy singer from scratch has its beautiful and ugly sides. The American singer Lana del Rey (real name: Lizzy Grant) becomes a big hit on various weblogs in the spring of 2011. The resigned Video Games has been viewed millions of times in a short time and is high in the charts worldwide. Based on this success, Del Rey is allowed to perform on renowned television shows such as Saturday
… Night Live and Later With Jools Holland. The reactions have been mixed and that appears to be a precursor. Because on the same weblogs the question is suddenly asked whether Del Rey has any authenticity. The 'authenticity' of her music and even her appearance are openly questioned. Poor Lizzy Grant, at 25 she actually seems a bit out of date. Her second CD Born to Die (2012) - her debut from 2010 was only available for a short time - brings just too little to change this. Besides a few outliers and a few weak tracks, the majority of the songs are just mediocre. It seems that in all the fuss about her person Del Rey has forgotten to make a good record. (JE)more
