Mount Kimbie was immediately bombarded with the dubstep promise of the 10s on their debut. There was no air of praise, the music press was unanimously lyrical. Dream debut is the only term that is appropriate here. That always makes the successor extra difficult. Was that debut album a fluke, or do the guys from Mount Kimbie have more to offer? … Fault Less Youth is that an extra layer has been added to the typical Mount Kimbie sound, without sacrificing recognisability. Mount Kimbie often makes use of home-garden-and-kitchen sounds, recorded with a portable recorder. With all kinds of studio tricks they turn it into beats and patches, on which the songs are built. A traditional set of instruments has now been added to that 'musique concrète' element. Real basses, real guitars, organs, wind instruments. That makes Cold Spring Fault Less Youth more accessible than its predecessor. Less adventurous, but with a clear message: Mount Kimbie is not a 'one trick pony'.
