After more than twenty years, the Manic Street Preachers are still not over. Their eleventh studio album also contains enough relevant songs to withstand the test of criticism. It must be said that not every song is equally strong. Especially the more poetic songs like Tokyo Skyline and As Holy As The Soil lack urgency. Fortunately, Rewind The Film also contains 'traditional' Manic songs. A phrase
… like 'The old boy network won the war again' will please many Preacher fans. The sound is accessible and open. Acoustic guitars, wind instruments, backing choirs, it is not too exciting, but more than enough as a packaging for very strong songs. The Welshmen are really big on one song: Manorbier, an instrumental that shows you all corners of the universe in four and a half minutes. Also sometimes tasty, but not something you listen to the Manic Street Preachers for. (HF)more
