The group Fullduplexx of the Rotterdam trombonist Louk Boudesteijn made a convincing debut in 2010 with F.FWD. Mainly fusions of rock, pop and funk were entered into with a pretty steamy sound as a result. The successor Modern People is deliberately slowing down. The album opens with Call 12013 in Albert Ayler style with a crookedly honked folk melody, but where the chaos had increased with Ayler,
… Fullduplexx suddenly changes into a relaxed jazz-rock groove. That moody sound persists and is later even assisted by a string section. But the main roles remain for the full and flowing sound of Boudesteijn and the controlled playing of saxophonist Mete Erker. Modern People is a swinging and melodic album, without being superficial and with the warmth of vintage jazz rock, in atmospheres of Nucleus and Weather Report. (MR)more
