The young dogs of the Dutch company Bruut! play jazz with the energy of a rock band. As surprising and powerful as in their early years, they storm the Dutch stages to provide jazz with a much needed boosting injection. With many ingredients from the sixties, sultry nightclub music on the one hand and power rock on the other, they create their own sound. Their of the same name in 2012 was warmly
… received by the press and public and resulted in many performances. With Fire they continue their way and have made their sound even more idiosyncratic if possible. Fire bounces back and forth between boogaloo, sixties rock and soul jazz, with the solid rhythms of double bassist Thomas Rolff and drummer Felix Schlarmann being adequately filled in by Hammond organist Folkert Oosterbeek and serving as a carpet for Maarten Hogenhuis' raw sax playing. Brutal! has all the potential and power to attract jazz to major pop festivals. (AD)more
