The English / American guitarist Saul Hudson aka Slash seems to have finally gathered the musicians around him with whom he can do what he likes best: rock uncomplicated. It is not without reason that World On Fire plays the same line-up as predecessor Apocalyptic Love, with singer Myles Kennedy in the ranks. Slash has had to come a long way for that, mainly plagued by megalomaniac partners / singers
… like Axl Rose and Scott Weiland. On World On Fire, however, everything is cake and egg and there is a lot of rocking. The album mainly contains uptempo hard rock and metal with a mid-tempo ballad here and there. Slash indulges in sharp riffs and its trademark: dexterous solos that never seem showy. Kennedy is, with its four octave range, an exemplary singer who is never in need of a powerful melody or screaming punch. But the seventeen songs at the same time thunder by somewhat meaninglessly, without high or low point. You'd almost come to blame Kennedy for a little lack of megalomania. (MR)more
