This is the Lou Barlow album you need to hear! Brace The Wave is everything that makes his music special: intimate, candid and melodic. The American has over 30 years of experience as a musician when this record is released. He wrote hundreds of songs for his bands Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh and Folk Implosion. They were often the ideal counterbalance to the screaming punk songs of his band members. Barlow
… has a sweet voice with which he usually sings sensitive songs. His solo albums therefore often lack some spice. On Brace The Wave he circumvents this problem by only playing 9 songs. He also keeps the tension in by telling inspired about his life for half an hour. The sparse accompaniment with a single acoustic guitar or ukulele is effective. It gives space to the stories of his stranded marriage and fatherhood. Stories that really have to get out. Lou Barlow has often beautifully exposed his soul, but on this album the old indie rocker is continuously in shape. (JE)more
