Los Lobos has always been a foodie band. Since 1973, this Los Angeles band has been storming listeners with quality music. More than forty years later, the 24th album is of course perfectly balanced again. For example, the drums sound nice and dry, while the guitars are wonderfully sharp. As if you are eating a meal from a chef who always puts something surprising on the table with the same ingredients.
As a rule, Los Lobos always plays the same kind of music, without getting bored. This is due to the few moments that the group does not play American rock with Mexican influences. Traces of blues and jazz can be heard on Gates Of Gold. And what about the hard rock riff in Too Small Heart or the interesting jam There I Go? Los Lobos shows no signs of aging on Gates Of Gold. Moreover, the future already presents itself in the form of the strong drummer David Hidalgo Jr., who strengthens his father's band for the first time. (JE)more
