'We could have cried all night', 'but maybe I should just pack my things and go', 'and no the shit don't get no lighter the older you get'. Lines from three songs from Robin Proper-Sheppard's sixth studio album, aka Sophia. And to think that he regards As We Make Our Way as a 'cheerful' Sophia CD. Perhaps the European-American American means that this time some hope shines through the lines here
… and there. Either way, it's nice to have Sophia back after six years of relative silence. After all, few bands understand the art of making mostly slow music without it ever getting boring or slow. Probably because so much is always happening instrumentally. Roaring drums and vicious guitar injections, like from the former frontman Adam Franklin in the fierce The Hustle, or the bit of like Resisting. Alienated fans of Interpol or of have a great alternative with this more than successful comeback album. (RME)more
