The five members of Blossoms did not have to travel far to meet their musical heroes. They grew up in Stockport, a suburb of Manchester. There, world famous groups such as and furore. Blossoms already played in the opening act for The Stone Roses after singer personally made a case for Blossoms. You understand why. Just like The Stone Roses, Blossoms sounds remarkably danceable for an indie pop
… band. This is especially evident from the opening track Charlemagne, by far the best song on this debut album. The big difference is that Blossoms is a lot better than Oasis or Stone Roses. That's where the shoe pinches a bit on this debut. It's all nice to listen to, but Blossoms could do with a bit more bluff and swagger in their music. Perhaps they therefore stay far away from a silky piano ballad like Onto Her Bed. The homework for a second album is therefore: mainly practice on your own sound. Now the band remains above all a good copy of their musical heroes. (PdK)more
