Who is Seasick Steve? We knew him as Steve Wold, born in 1941. The man who, after a life as a vagrant and worker, broke through in his sixties, with records full of primary and raw blues. However, an unauthorized biography appeared in 2016 in which the writer claims he was born Steve Leach ten years later. Leach is said to have been active in the California music scene as far back as the 1960s.
Seasick Steve keeps himself in the saddle and perhaps that's why he gave his eighth album a cowboy wisdom. Keepin 'The Horse Between Me And The Ground is a double album. On the first CD we hear Seasick Steve as we know him, with his bare blues rock played on self-built guitars. On the second CD he shows that he is also a gifted acoustic guitarist, in ten folk and country songs. Especially the last disc works well. and fit him perfectly. Whoever he really is. (MR)more
