From Paramaribo to Hengelo, that's the way Jeangu Macrooy traveled for the music. Until 2014 he lived in Suriname and studied there at the conservatory, but he completed his studies at the ARtEZ Pop Academy in Twente. Once in the Netherlands, he came into contact with producer Pieter ' Perquin, who also supports him on this debut album. In a short time Macrooy managed to rake in the necessary prizes.
He won the Popprijs Overijssel and 3FM proclaimed him Serious Talent with only one single in his pocket. All that hustle and bustle is justified, because High On You is an excellent debut album. Macrooy's music is somewhere between soul, blues, singer / songwriter pop, while in the intro Aisa he also honors his Surinamese roots. The juicy wind arrangements give his music a familiar edge, but the biggest trigger on this album is Jeangu's smooth yet lived voice. Indeed, Macrooy is a serious talent that we hope to hear a lot more about. (PdK)more
