Seventies Paul Simon isn't exactly the most exciting live performer. He is a great songwriter with many a classic to his name. In 2012 he celebrated his immortal songbook in London's Hyde Park, on an enormous stage marred by screaming banners from organizer Hard Rock Calling. This DVD recording of the concert, which still starts in daylight, does not want the atmosphere. That is not due to the
… massive audience that already enthusiastically receives warm-ups like Kodachrome and 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover. The Concert In Hyde Park mainly relies on the guests who follow. So is the now elderly reggae singer sing his own classics and then bring life to Mother And Child Reunion. Also special is the arrival of the South African band with which Simon recorded in 1986 , supplemented by the choir Ladysmith Black Mambazo. In this way the concert becomes a true celebration. But after seeing this once, the two enclosed CDs with the full concert might be better. (MR)more
