'Start talking', Lucky Fonz babbles in the opening track of his seventh album Multimens. Lucky is back in his element. His lyrics are humorous and intimate at the same time, but the musical interpretation is different this time. In the beginning of his career, Lucky Fonz mainly made music inspired by traditional singer-songwriters, on Multimens he goes back to the music he listened to as a teenager:
house, techno and hardcore. Not that it turned out to be a techno album, the influences are subtle for that. You can hear it in the synthesizers and dance beats, but also the stiff guitar work sometimes comes around the corner. Incidentally, the fourteen songs were recorded by fourteen different producers. Because of Lucky's typical narrative way of singing, the tone - even with an ode to happy hardcore like Powerless - generally remains resigned. Multimens is another cheerful and disarming throw from this lyricist. (JvQ)more
