Alientronic is the eighth album by German techno DJ Ellen Allien (real name Ellen Fraatz), which she recorded in Berlin and released on her own label BPitch. In eight tracks the German explores the border area between techno, ambient and house. Fraatz is one of the biggest names when it comes to Berlin techno. On this album she spreads her refined electronic music so widely that it reaches a constant
… boiling point. The album was recorded in the winter of 2018. The dark days and the chilly weather resonate in her music - which will most likely come into its own in a club. You hear a lot of repetitive beats on this album, in the form of heavy thumping drum samples. Despite the dark character of this album, tracks like MDMA and Electronic Joy feel like a warm bath, while songs like Bowie In Harmony and Free Society rely on their aggressive rhythms that descend like a sledgehammer. Fraatz knows how to bring her techno to a boil again and again by subtle shifts within her songs. (JvQ)more
