They call themselves a funk-jazz-soul-hip-hop-psychedelic-jam-art-rock-experimental-avant-garde band, but in practice all this is not too bad. Up to and including hip-hop this description is still correct, but everything that comes after is at least slightly exaggerated. One thing becomes clear after listening to Elevate, Lettuce makes exceptionally well-thought-out and always swinging jazz funk.
Many of their songs seem to be based on blaxploitation funk which is gratefully mixed with hip hop. The beautiful wind arrangements give it an almost mesmerizing effect, with the highlight being the more than 13 minutes long Gang Ten. Their love for bands like Earth, Wind And Fire and Tower Of Power can also be heard clearly. Especially the sound of the last band returns on Ready To Live. . Reggae is also not avoided with the tripping Trapezoid Dub. Maybe they should also include this genre in the genre description of the band. (AD)more
