Behind The Orb is Alex Paterson. Especially in the 90s he settled in the British ambient techno and house scene with changing band members. Characteristic are the influences of dub that he has on his album (2018) eagerly visited again. The first part of Abolition Of The Royal Familia is mainly based on house music. Paterson then shifts towards dub and reggae via ambient. Within this eclectic mix,
… he comes up with fun details, such as distorted voices and radio interludes. Towards the end of the album he takes ample time to build wide-ranging ambient soundscapes. This album has thus become a sort of summary of Paterson's entire oeuvre. It swings in all directions and the amount of voices is sometimes mainly distracting, but even more often The Orb shows that he guarantees atmospheric electronics. (JvQ)more
