On paper, a collaboration between Taylor Swift and Aaron Dessner ( ) is surprising and interesting. After (2019), the singer on this album sounds different than we are used to from her, but Swift is certainly not shocking. In the sparse arrangements with lots of strings and guitars you hear the same melancholic undertone as with The National. Swift wrote the songs at home during the corona crisis
… and besides Dessner, Swift's regular producer Jack Antonoff also took care of them. No matter how beautiful the production is, it generally remains a bit hypothermic. It is not entirely unjustified that the media has already made a comparison with because Folklore has a similar mystery surrounding her music.
