My Love Is Cool, that's what Wolf Alice called their first album in 2015. But in the UK, they actually think everything about the London band - and frontwoman Ellie Rowsell in particular - is cool. While the debut album only received a Mercury Prize nomination, successor
Visions Of A Life walked away with the prestigious award in 2018. And this third album received a five-star review from The
… Guardian, The Independent, The Telegraph and the NME. Many times they talk about Rowsell's candour. For instance in Smile, in which she deals with people who were shocked, or disappointed, by the line 'I wanna fuck all the people I meet' from the earlier single Yuk Foo. It's, together with Play The Greatest Hits, the only moment where Wolf Alice is really musically active. Elsewhere, the band's folk roots increasingly surface, such as in the plucky Safe From Heartbreak (If You Never Fall In Love) and the beautiful No Hard Feeling. Based on the strong, well-balanced Blue Weekend, Wolf Alice deserves more love in our country as well. (RME)more
