With a lot of bombast, Laura Pergolizzi aka LP opens her sixth album Churches. This one will return on several occasions, because this time Pergolizzi holds nothing back when it comes to emotions. With her typical, pinchy voice, she lays her feelings bare. In that sense, this album is not that different from predecessor
Heart To Mouth (2018). On Churches, the theme of love is looked at from its good
… and bad sides and wrapped up in powerful power pop ballads. Pergolizzi's voice has an impressive range, but again, she can't avoid over-shouting herself at times, causing the whole thing to veer towards the melodramatic. The touch of rock 'n' roll that Pergolizzi incorporates in the music, gives it a fine swaying character. (JvQ)more
