Dave Raven loves the Eurovision Song Contest and therefore thought it was high time to dive with his band The Kik into the rich body of work that the event now has. This makes this, after
Hertaalt! (2017), the second album by the band from The Hague on which re-edits take center stage. The original songs are thoroughly put through the wringer and recited in Dutch, topped with The Kik's typical
… vintage sauce. For example, Poupée De Cire, Poupée De Son by France Gall has been transformed into an instrumental surf-pop number and Dana Internationals Diva has become a chanson. Of course, ABBA should not be missing either, they pass by twice. The album was clearly recorded with a lot of fun, because the cheerfulness and creativity jump off. You don't even have to be a fan of the Eurovision Song Contest to appreciate these reinterpretations of The Kik. (JvQ)more
