"This is essence of me and what I've been doing all my life, trying to understand and discover," Laura Pergolizzi (LP for short) says of her seventh album. That essence is apparently in lost love - a theme she previously incorporated in predecessor
Churches from 2021, when her six-year relationship had just ended. Two years later, LP cheerfully picked up where she left off, with Golden. Merry indeed,
… because the opener (and first single) of Love Lines is a nice Latin-style tune, as is Hola halfway through, in which Pergolizzi describes how she finally made peace with all her exes and mistakes made. She does so with that typical booming voice, somewhere between Cyndi Lauper and Stevie Nicks, which proves a tad tiresome after a while. Fortunately, then, there is the beautiful, acoustic closing track Hold The Lights, in which LP returns to the theme of regretting certain choices. Back to the essence, so to speak. (RME)more
