The Hendrix heirs are sitting on a gold mine and they know it. James Marshall Hendrix (1942-1970), better known as Jimi Hendrix, exerted an enormous influence on generations of guitarists after him with his relatively short career. It is precisely the fact that he was unable to build a large body of work in this short time that makes Hendrix's live recordings so interesting. There are great examples
… of this, such as the phenomenal concert in Maui released in 2020. Also during the concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles in 1967, Hendrix was on form. He sounds relaxed, even a little too much at times. What is a really big difference from other live recordings is the sound quality. Which, compared to the aforementioned concert in Hawaii, is on the skimpy side. That's certainly a shame, because the set list includes fine performances of, among other things, Hendrix's little-performed Catfish Blues. (JV)more
