Singer Holly Cole initially manifested herself as a singer of the jazzy repertoire. Gradually, she is increasingly moving towards an idiosyncratic repertoire, which produces music that moves towards better pop music. Her new CD Dark Dear Heart contains compositions by O'Hara (the title track Dark Dear Heart and Brighter Lonely Day) and her fellow musician, pianist Aaron Davis (Make It Go Away and
… Timbuktu). A beautiful composition is also provided by Larkin: 'I told him that my dog wouldn't run'. Dark Dear Heart is a CD for lovers of quiet listening music full of atmosphere, for listeners who like 'quiet singing'. Contributors to this fine CD included Jim Cox (organ / piano), Dean Parks (electric guitar), Steve Tavaglione (soprano sax) and Jon Hassell (trumpet). (JW)more
