Liesbeth Esselink aka Solex continues on it on Pick Up, with her debut Solex vs. The Hitmeister, the path taken. Although the musicians of her live band (drummer Robert Lagendijk and guitarist Geert de Groot) play along on many songs, the songs once again sound like collages of randomly collected samples. The great merit of Solex is that in some elusive way it still manages to give you the impression
… that you are listening to a song, despite the lack of almost all 'pop laws'. This apparent naiveté is her great strength, but it also works against her as far as her childlike voice and melodies are concerned. I can't get used to that, just like on her debut. (WvdZ)more
