Drummer Sly Dunbar and bassist Robbie Shakespeare are rightly regarded as the world's tightest rhythm tandem. In 1975 they joined forces to form Sly & Robbie, but before that they could be heard separately on many Jamaican productions. From that time on things went fast. Together they were responsible for much of the productions that left this island and they collaborated with artists such as
… Culture, U-Roy, Horace Andy, The Mighty Diamonds and Black Uhuru. Then they started their own Taxi label, one of Jamaica's most successful labels and a breeding ground for a new direction for reggae. In addition, they were regularly hired to provide the most diverse artists such as Grace Jones, Joe Cocker, Joan Armatrading, Ian Dury, Bob Dylan, Herbie Hancock, Bill Laswell and The Rolling Stones with their riddims. On Live! Sly & Robbie are seen at their best at The Buttermarket, Jazz and Roots Club in Shrewsbury. For the fans there is also a thirty-five minute interview with Radio 2 DJ Mark Lamarr, in which their background is discussed in detail. (AD)more
