More and more foreign artists are discovering the Amsterdam venue Paradiso as a location for their live DVD. After Live, Nick Cave and Beth Hart, the British rock band Fiction Plane also recorded its live DVD in the former church on the Weteringschans. We are writing in May 2007, and the group has just achieved a definitive breakthrough by providing the support act for the reunion tour of The Police,
… not entirely coincidentally the band of the father of front man Joe Sumner (Sting). But before that too the band worked hard as a support act for Foo Fighters, Queens Of The Stone Age and Rage Against The Machine. The solid rock of Fiction Plane lends itself perfectly to an energetic show and that is exactly what the visitors of Paradiso got to see, that evening in May. And many will not have been able to make the comparison with Sting and The Police, especially due to the trio line-up, the high technical playing level, the spacious guitar sound and Joe's almost identical voice. However, if this DVD proves anything, it is that Fiction Plane also deserves to exist on its own merits. (MS)more
