After Marco Borsato, Paul de Leeuw, Sting, Lionel Ritchie and Nick & Simon, it was Doe Maar's turn in 2012 to color the Gelredome red with Guido's Orchestra. The big question is whether the symphonic excess fits with Doe Maar's stripped-down reggae songs. Yes, but only because the orchestra serves Doe Maar. Fortunately, the strong songs are central. … the machine is up to speed. The three-year-olds (and young René van Collem of 50 on drums) of Doe Maar clearly enjoy it. Actually, nothing more happens than that and that's the clever thing: Doe Maar doesn't need any tricks to captivate the audience for two hours. There are guest contributions by Joost Belifante (inimitable in Nederwiet) and Gers Pardoel (singing out of tune in Liever Dan Lief). The massive audience doesn't care and sings all the songs word for word. With this DVD, those visitors have a nice memory of those beautiful evenings. (PdK)more
