Founded in 1983, the Australian Pentecostal Church of Hillsong attracts 20,000 churchgoers each week and has sister churches around the world. The gospel and worship music that is played is in great demand on CD and DVD. For example, there are plates in Mandarin or Spanish. A perfect way to share the gospel. The DVD Glorious Ruins is a concert recording of Hillsong Church, the rock band that tries
… to spread the teachings of Jesus Christ through Coldplay-like songs. The music and images are of high quality, as we are used to from Hillsong, which never comes with clutter - unless you understand their message by that. The slick rock show with many show elements and slow motion direction is reminiscent of a heavily performed version of our EO Youth Day. It is good to see that Hillsong Church is a world famous gospel group, because no expense has been spared. One of the extras on this DVD is a half-hour sermon by Brian Houston, Hillsong's chief pastor. Ultimately, of course, it is all about the message, but the form seems just as important to this religious community. (JE)more
