The Loyko ensemble is named after Loyko Zabar, Russia's most legendary gypsy musician. A self-trained violinist, he wandered from camp to camp and died a premature, violent death. The ensemble, consisting of two gypsy violinists and a Russian guitarist, was founded in 1991. Unlike their spiritual father, all members of the ensemble have a classical education.
