The Danube has its source in Germany and then flows eastward through several countries until it flows into the Black Sea. Just as the Danube does not interfere with land borders, so did people: Czechs lived in Romania and Hungarians in Slovakia. The traditions in the Balkan countries therefore show many similarities. Added to this is the musical cross-fertilization brought about by itinerant Jewish
… musicians and gypsies. The album Wide Is The Danube shows the fusion of various Eastern European folk music traditions, but in a contemporary interpretation of traditional music. Teagrass is an eclectic Moravian-Slovak acoustic band that has a lot of experience in experimenting with contemporary (Irish) folk, jazz, bluegrass and Eastern European folk music. The Hungarian singer and anthropologist Irén Lovász knows many old folk melodies of different geographic and national origins. Lovász's voice is striking: clear, somewhat nasal and high-pitched. The combination of Lovász with Teagrass provides extremely original and fascinating peaceful music. (SvdP)more
