Mikis Theodorakis was born in Khios in 1925. He is one of the contemporary composers who greatly influenced the development of the artistic popular song in Greece after 1958. He contributed in particular to a renewed bloom of the Greek art song, where he built on the Byzantine roots of Greek traditional music, using high-quality poetic texts by contemporary Greek poets.
