Celtic culture does not usually immediately think of Spain, but traces of this can still be found in the northwestern provinces of Galicia and Asturias. In these regions, for example, the bagpipes still play an important role in musical life. José Angel Hevia, from Villaviciosa, tries to make the bagpipes accessible and attractive to young audiences with his debut album "Tierra de nadie". That he
… manages to do this quite well beyond expectations, is evident from the fact that the song "Busindre reel" became a number 1 hit in Spain. Hevia has therefore created an electronic bagpipe and mixes his playing with elements from pop, rock, hip hop, new age and Spanish music. And he even plays the Australian didgeridoo. This CD probably goes a bit too far for purists in Celtic music, but for a progressive and pop-oriented audience, Hevia offers something refreshingly new. (SvdP) _more
