Mabulu is actually not a band, but a project organized by Helvetas. Mabulu in the Shangana language means 'seeking a dialogue'. The aim of the project was to bring together Mozambican musicians from different generations and from different backgrounds. The age of the seven musicians therefore varies from 20 to 63 years. … as the 'great old man of Marrabenta'. Marrabenta is Mozambique's traditional dance music, a synthesis of Portuguese dance music with Afro-Brazilian and African elements. Themes such as drugs, child prostitution and AIDS are also not shunned. The album "Karimbo", with all its setbacks, was recorded during the great flood in Mozambique.
