Cuban singer and guitarist Eliades Ochoa has worked with many Cuban bands, including the Septetos Cubanos and the Quinteto De La Trova. Since 1978 he has been the leader of the band Cuarteto Patria. He is best known internationally for Ry Cooder's project Buena Vista Social Club. His albums Sublime Ilusion (1999) and Tributo Al Cuarteto Patria (2000) were critically acclaimed. The title of the album
… Estoy Como Nunca promises a lot: in Dutch: 'I am like never before'. Besides members of his Cuarteto Patria, he also invited guest musicians such as Raul Malo (from the Mavericks and Los Super Seven) and David Hidalgo (from Los Lobos). Ochoa pays special attention to the arrangements, instrumentation, solos and vocal polyphony. Well-known classics such as Siboney and Pena are tastefully performed. The sublime singing and virtuoso playing of Ochoa and his companions let the warm Cuban sun shine in the hearts of the listener. An album full of swing and joie de vivre! (SvdP)more
