Toelichting

In een top 5 van beste oratoria zou Elgars The Dream of Gerontius zeker een plek verdienen. Waarschijnlijk is Elgars meesterwerk dan wel de minst bekende van de top, althans buiten Groot-Brittannië. Jammer is dit wel. Gerontius mist dan misschien het triomfantelijke van Handels The Messiah of Haydns Die Schöpfung.
