After De Pauze is Herman Finkers' comeback show: he was absent from the Dutch theaters for seven years. In this performance the Almelo comedian looks back on this rest period. After a quarter of a century of performing, the 'comic person' was tired of his own jokes. In a frank, sober and mildly humorous way, he also reveals another cause of his fatigue: he turns out to have the disease CLL (Chronic
… Lymphocytic Leukemia). Through entertaining anecdotes and many songs - more than before - Finkers tells about how he got to know his wife better through his home life and how he is confronted with the current zeitgeist through television. Finkers' former high joke density has been somewhat exchanged for more subtle depth. Inimitably beautiful and clever is the way in which Finkers combines humor and seriousness in his original treatises on life and death, faith and especially love. This live recording was recorded at the beginning of May 2009 in the Schouwburg in Hengelo. The bonus DVD contains no less than five extras, including television interviews by Leo Fijen and Annemiek Schrijver and Finkers' personal memories of Willem Wilmink. (SvdP)more
