The English singer Sarah Brightman cut off her starting career as a pop star when she was offered a role in the musical Cats in 1981. The composer of this musical, Andrew Lloyd Webber, was rumored not only to be impressed by her angelic voice. This love turned out to be mutual because in 1984 they even married each other. Andrew Lloyd Webber then wrote the musicals Requiem, Aspects Of Love and
… Phantom Of The Opera especially for Brightman. Especially the role of Christine in the last musical was written on her body. After their divorce in 1990, Brightman decided to continue as a solo artist. Together with her new (life) partner and producer Frank Peterson, she went in search of a new sound. This quest resulted in successful albums such as Timeless (1997) in the second half of the nineties. Eden (1998) and La Luna (2000). On these albums we hear a special mix of pop, classical and new age. She has collaborated with major choirs and orchestras and sang duets with great singers such as Andrea Bocelli (Time To Say Goodbye) and José Cura (Just Show Me How To Love You). She also dared to record less obvious covers of Hooverphonic (Eden), Procol Harum (A Whiter Shade Of Pale) and The Gipsy Kings (Tu Quieres Volver). All these songs ended up on the CD The Very Best Of 1990-2000. It has thus become a perfect collector that offers a good overview of what Sarah Brightman has to offer. She has even been called one of the greatest voices of her generation, and that is not entirely wrong. To ensure that even the most loyal fans will buy the album, three songs not previously released on CD have been added. For that reason alone, The Very Best Of Sarah Brightman 1990-2000 is a guaranteed sales success when the holidays are approaching again. (MvP)more
