Rarely has a jazz trio lasted so long together as Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette. At the time of recording Up For It, a recording of a concert in Juan-les-Pins in July 2002, they had been playing together for more than twenty years, but as the CD proves they have had the enthusiasm of a bunch of young dogs that play with each other for the first time. Even the health problems that
… plagued them at the time did not stop them from putting on one of their best concerts. Especially on Oliver Nelson's Butch & Butch and on the swinging bouncer Autumn Leaves, which changes into Up For It, Keith Jarrett's only composition on this CD, they go out of their way. The trio also continues to amaze with their rendition of ballads. Their adaptations of My Funny Valentine, Someday My Prince Will Come and Charlie Parker's Scrapple From The Apple are of an unprecedented high level. (AD)more
