The expression 'blood creeps where it cannot go' certainly applies to the descendants of the 20th-century experimental composer . Son Markus Stockhausen is a trumpet player, composer and improviser. He is mainly active as a jazz musician, but lets his father's legacy and passion for experimentation resonate in this. On the triple album Wild Life, his younger brother Simon rejoins this on the piano.
Without losing a moment of tension, a mixed septet led by the Stockhausen people balances for almost three hours on the border of world jazz, ambient and avant-garde. A lot of atmosphere is built up in drawn-out pieces with electronic soundscapes. These then put the group in the mood to rise again and again in inspired ensemble playing and inspired solos. Wild Life draws you as a listener into a meditative and mystical world that cannot last long enough. (MR)more
